Bipolar Disorder Management in a Perinatal Patient

Objectives:
- Identify risks of untreated bipolar disorder in pregnancy.
- Describe link between postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder discuss common treatments (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics).
- Describe risks to the fetus and newborn of exposure to mood stabilizers (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics) in utero.
