Objectives:

  1. Identify risks of untreated bipolar disorder in pregnancy.
  2. Describe link between postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder discuss common treatments (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics).
  3. Describe risks to the fetus and newborn of exposure to mood stabilizers (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics) in utero.
