Periscope is hosting eight free webinars in 2025 broken into two series:

  1. Perinatal Mental Health Series
  2. Perinatal Opioid Use Disorder Series 

These series are directed toward health care providers and professionals caring for pregnant and postpartum patients.

Perinatal Opioid Use Disorder Series #1

Objectives:

  • Describe the clinical, ethical, and legal intersection when caring for pregnant and postpartum people with substance use disorders.
  • Outline strength-based strategies to promote family unification.
  • Identify local and national community partners who can help you holistically support pregnant and postpartum patients in their recovery.

Objectives:

  • Identify mechanism of action of zuranolone.  
  • Describe how zuranolone may fit into the arsenal with other treatments for postpartum depression.  
  • Identify barriers of use of zuranolone.

Objectives:

  • Define the relationship between mental health and substance use disorders in the perinatal patient.  
  • Identify the epidemiology of mental health and substance use disorders in the perinatal patient.  
  • Describe strategies for management of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in the perinatal patient.

Objectives:

  • Identify the clinical presentation of NOWS
  • Contrast diagnostic criteria for a diagnosis of NAS vs NOWS
  • Distinguish how management of NOWS impacts outcomes

Perinatal Mental Health Series #3

Objectives:

  • Describe the criteria for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 
  • Differentiate between “normal” attentional symptoms during the perinatal period versus a perinatal patient with ADHD. 
  • Identify risks to the fetus and newborn of stimulant (e.g. amphetamine, methylphenidate, and lisdexamfetamine) exposure in utero.

Objectives:

  • Understand the risks to the patient, the pregnancy and the infant of perinatal substance use
  • Identify harm reduction strategies for perinatal patients who use substances
  • Describe harm reduction resources and organizations available for healthcare providers caring for perinatal patients

Perinatal Opioid Use Disorder Series #4

Objectives:

  • Review the prevalence of perinatal opioid use
  • Describe the spectrum of treatment for pregnant patients that use substances including medications, therapy, prenatal care, and Labor and Delivery planning
  • Understand the roles and impact of the multidisciplinary team including healthcare providers and community-based supports

Perinatal Mental Health Series #4

Objectives:

  • Identify risks of untreated bipolar disorder in pregnancy. 
  • Describe link between postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder discuss common treatments (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics). 
  • Describe risks to the fetus and newborn of exposure to mood stabilizers (e.g. lithium, valproic acid, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, class of atypical antipsychotics) in utero.
